AWS Eco Plastics’ Recycling Plant, Hemswell Cliff

Metsec has supplied approximately 40 tons of lightweight cold-roll formed steel purlins to help create the largest and most technologically advanced plastic bottle recycling facility in Europe.

The new £10m facility, at Hemswell Cliff in Lincolnshire, replaces AWS Eco Plastics’ bottle-sorting and storage facilities, which were destroyed by fire shortly after opening in August 2009.

Metsec purlins top Derbyshire’s new fire stations

Purlins and side rails from Metsec plc are playing a key role in the modernisation of facilities for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS). Metsec’s light gauge galvanised steel Z and C sections fixed to the hot rolled steel frame support wall and roof cladding of the new fire station at Chesterfield, while Z section purlins support the roof at Ilkeston’s new station. Metsec’s Purlin Division is the UK’s largest designer and manufacturer of light gauge purlins, side rails and mezzanine floor sections for use in many industrial, commercial and public sector applications.

Metsec lattice beams and purlins for Rayleigh Weir community fire station

Cold rolled steel specialist Metsec is supplying lattice trusses and purlins for roofing, and its site fixed Steel Framing System (SFS) for infill walling, for an environment-friendly fire station project in Rayleigh, Essex. The £4.5 million building is designed and project managed by Hunters. This innovative architectural scheme incorporates a single-storey four-bay garage, a training tower, and a two-storey admin and accommodation block. Green credentials are impressive – the new building boasts a geothermal heating system, solar thermal water heating, and a helical wind turbine expected to generate around 8,900kWh of energy per year.

Metsec’s purlins for Morrison’s Kent distribution centre

Lightweight high-performance purlins from cold rolled steel specialist Metsec are supporting the roof of the UK’s fourth largest supermarket chain, Morrison’s new warehouse and distribution centre in Sittingbourne, Kent. Morrison’s two buildings, covering a total area of 920,000 square feet, are the first to be occupied at the 126-acre G. Park business park, developed by global provider of sustainable logistics space, Gazely Limited.

Metsec lattice beams ‘on air’ in new London studios

Lightweight steel lattice beams from Metsec go ‘on air’ in new broadcast studios in London. Specially manufactured triangular lattice structures – evocative of transmitter masts – provide visible upright support inside three glass-walled pod-type radio studios, while 11 metre long lattice trusses with 50mm diameter bottom chords create a framework for overhead lighting in a temporary basement TV studio. Ideal for a wide variety of structural and architectural applications, Metsec’s lattice beams are available in a range of designs and spans of up to 40 metres.
